So this is the one I wanted to drop first this cycle but the TP didn't arrive in time. But the good news is that it showed up and sounds BANGING.
Indie heads might know U.G.O [Unbiased Ghetto Opinion] from Stevano U.G.O.'s 1999 split 12" on Echo International, but Golden Era headz have been searching for these rare AF gems forever. Ugo and his family came to the States in the early 90's from Nigeria bringing with them a distinct sound almost entirely influenced by U.S. East Coast Hip Hop. They settled in Washington, D.C. and self-released all their records, simultaneously learning the record game.
Some exceptionally rare OG's on this one yo! There are 2 tracks off the impossible to find 1992 vinyl EP as well as one KILLER from the cassette version that is making its first appearance on wax. Also included is the as-hard2find "Feel This" jawn [only 7 people on DIscogs CLAIM they have it in their collection]. As well as these heaters, we have included 2 joints from 1994 including "Straight from the Heart" which features Knowledge aka Doodlebug from Digable Planets.
I know some cats will be saying where is this track and where is that track - some of the masters were corrupted over the years so their inclusion was impossible - BUT there might be some better versions somewhere, and the hunt continues....

Peep this short interview with KING UGO:
Where did UGO grow up?Lagos, Nigeria. Moved to America early 90s and went to Howard University in DC.
What are your earliest memories of the culture?
Hip hop was not in Nigeria at the time when we first started. We were the first African MCs who mentored Two Face and many more who are now super stars. Being on radio and TV also putting on major concerts with major artist from America in Nigeria, I was one of the first to pioneer the movement.
How and when did you meet the other members of the group and could you give us a run down of who exactly is in the group?
Other members in the group are my sisters and brother Alo who passed away early. So it has always been family and close friends involved.
How did the record deals come about back in the day?
Record labels were few, we started our own record label. We would find it all from top to bottom.
Was there any major label/radio/press interest at the time? Was that even part of the plan?
Many labels wanted to sign us but we were from the streets and had our own money so we did not move forward with them and then my brother died and I took a lot of time away from music. We did not understand the label reach and marketing capacity at the time. We were kids...
How does it feel that 30 something years later hip hop heads still want to listen to this material?
It feels amazing to be back. I have a new company and now we are creating new music and digital content for today.
